Landscape Lighting Design in Lorraine, QC

Our clients in Lorraine had a beautiful pool, but at night everything went dark. The path next to the pool, leading to the backyard, was hard to see. That part of the yard has large hostas and a beautiful blue spruce. The homeowners wanted a landscape lighting design that would make their evenings more enjoyable and safer, while still being able to see where their property ends.

What was the problem with this Lorraine property?

The pool area and the path next to it had no lighting at all. At night, it was hard to see where you were walking. The homeowners wanted to enjoy their yard longer in the evening, but the lack of light made that difficult. They wanted a landscape lighting design that added both ambiance and safety, without too much brightness or glare.

What was our approach to this landscape lighting design?

We used two types of fixtures for this project. The first type is path lights from the Lumien brand. For some of these lights, we added extensions to raise them higher than the standard 18 inches. This created a beautiful effect on the hostas, lighting them from above.

The second type of fixture is uplights. We used them to light a tree at the front of the property and all the shrubs behind the pool. We chose a 3000K color temperature for a warm, natural glow. In total, this project needed about twenty fixtures.

What challenges did we run into?

The terrain wasn't too difficult, except for one area with flat rocks, similar to small flagstone. We had to carve around these rocks to bury the wire deep enough. In some spots, we even had to remove a few rocks so the wire could pass underneath, safely and out of sight.

The good news is that we didn't need to cut any sidewalks or drill any cores. There was enough space near the pool to install the uplights right in an existing flower bed.

What was the final result?

The hostas look amazing at night, lit up softly by the path lights. The path next to the pool is now much safer to walk, thanks to the soft glow of the lights. You can see the whole backyard without being blinded by the light. Avoiding glare is always a priority in our lighting designs.
